THE PLACE
Mixco Viejo is an important archaeological site, which is a stronghold for the manor Maya-Cakchiquel (post classic period 1250 - 1525). Mixco ruins are located in the department of Chimaltenango. The ruins that have been preserved until today show a series of pyramids, barrows of observatories, stadiums for ball games. Was largely a ceremonial center, but its characteristic more important is that had two courtyards for the ball games. The construction and ceramics of Mixco Viejo belong to a single period, the Post classic. Maya was the capital of this place until century XVI. The original language Pokomán only spoken in the villages of Mixco Viejo and Chinautlá.
